The 2012 New South Wales State Jiu-Jitsu Championships started off a little too early for my liking – that being caused by a combination of having the largest number of competitors to date and an extremely late night due to delayed flights from our SUB Apparel Pro team mates arriving from Queensland.
This competition for me was significant. It was my first competition I’ve entered in 6 months without having any injuries. My last five competitions including the Pan American Championships and the Abu Dhabi Pro World Cup, I have been held back by injuries. But after taking 7 weeks off to heal up this was going to be my first competition back without injuries – and it was a fantastic result. I won all of my 6 fights by submission and in the most dominating fashion I’ve ever competed in before. The end result – 3 Gold medals from three divisions.
A special thanks to Miter Almeida for coaching me on the day. I am looking forward to getting back into training straight away and working on building up the fitness I lost whilst recovering from my injuries. I will then be setting my sights on the No-Gi World Championships in California later this year.
Thank you all for the support and see you all soon.
